Horseback Riding

Springmaid Mountain offers a wide variety of equestrian services, including trail rides, lead line rides for children, half-day and overnight trips, as well as daily and long-term boarding options.

Note: Except for lead lines, children must be at least eight years of age and over four feet tall. Riders must weigh less than 250 lbs and wear closed-toe shoes. Double riding is not allowed.

Trail Rides

Spend a morning or afternoon on winding trails that reveal nature at its best – majestic mountain vistas, gentle flowing rivers and dynamic fall foliage colors. Trail rides are guided on over 400 acres of mountain scenery. Call ahead to schedule an hour, hour-and-a-half, or half-day trail ride.

Lead Lines

The lead lines allow smaller children to enjoy the riding experience. A saddled horse is provided for 1/2 hour for a parent or adult to lead the child on a short walk in the vicinity of the equestrian center.

Overnight Rides

Guests arrive at the stables at noon on Saturday and prepare for a five-hour ride to the North Toe River primitive campsites.

Day Use

Visitors are welcome to bring their horses to Springmaid to ride the trails. Daily equestrian fee is $10 per horse and is payable at the Front Office on arrival.

Boarding

For short term stays, keep your horse in our private pastures for only $10 per night. Call for extended boarding.
